New Members & Membership Plan Highlight New Season
By Don Rolland
Well, we made it through another racquetball season. It was a great year. We had 12 tournaments scheduled, including a new one in Fort Wayne. The Fort Wayne Y.M.C.A. generated quite a bit of excitement about this opportunity to advertise and get people into the club, and significantly helped us with our membership. We continue to focus on our juniors and the growing of our State membership. Currently 26% of the Indiana membership consists of new members.
I’m Don Rolland, recently elected President of INSRA. I would also like to introduce John Lee as Vice President, and Nancy Haley, Kyle Smith, and Jana Noble, as newly elected board members. They are welcome additions to the association. John is taking over the sanctioning function, and Nancy hosted her first tournament at Fort Wayne this season.
State Singles Results
After State Singles this year, we notified a number of winners of their advancement to the next level. Please join me in congratulating Deli Stinnett, Jason Campbell, Bill Hooper, Ryan Beatty, Dean Cline, Keith Riegler, Tim Moore, Don Hirsch, Jim Bono, David Rogers, Sean Summers, Luis Lomeli, Mike Hunter, George Parobek, Les Conrad, and Amy Williams. Accomplishment at the State level deserves the recognition!
It Takes A Lot of Help
There are a number of people who have made significant contributions to our association over the last 3 years, and I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge a number of them: Ryan Griffin, Jim Davis, Gary Smith, Kyle Smith, Jana Noble, Mike Worley, Filip Vesely, Doris Roberts, Tony Domelle, Natalie Kleinfelter Domelle, Nancy Haley, James Haley, James Black, Dwayne Wolff, John Lee, Larry Marietta, Angelo Batitstatos, Bob Wright, Steve Wright, Alex Ackerman, Joe Aspatore, Jim Bono, Diane Moore, Tom Bainbridge, Lisa Resney, Marcie Crozier, Julie Popovich, Scott Golden, Matt Lewis, John Amatulli, Al Taylor, Rex Lawler, Bonnie Lawler, Manny Rodriguez, Dean Cline, Roger Languell, Rick Killion, Mike Arnolt, Cathy McGrath, Deb Chaney, Keith Berry, Ron Biesbor, Jack Lencionni, Keith Minor, Allen Arkush.
We also could not do it without the support of our court facilities: Greenbriar Athletic Club, Omni 41, Shelby County Athletic Club, Summit City Fitness, Indiana State University, Purdue University, Health Connection, and your club. As you see these individuals, take the time to thank them for their help in growing the sport.
Board Things
In addition to the restructuring of our bylaws, growing Board participation, and our continued efforts to grow junior and female participation, we have also been working on how to better communicate with our membership. By the time you read this, we should have changed the structure of our web site at www.insra.org. The new structure will allow us to enter tournament information, articles, pictures, etc. easier. We have been working on how to provide information to the membership via e-mail, etc., and then provide a yearbook as a form of summary.
New Abbreviated Membership
One of the advantages of membership is the opportunity to compete with others, and see how different players approach the game. When participating in the various tournaments many friendships are generated. By going to different locations, you have more diversity as you will meet many players who will only play at their home club. This year the USA Racquetball Association has provided us with a an abridged USAR membership form which allows a person to enter a single tournament at a significantly reduced rate to encourage club players to consider joining the racquetball association and participate in more tournaments.
If you haven’t tried a tournament recently, now would be a good time. See you at the next one!!
