Juniors at Ft. Wayne, IN Open Racquetball Championship
The first tournament of the 2009 year started off on a good note for Junior Racquetball in Indiana. The Ft. Wayne, IN Open Racquetball Championship had the most junior players in a tournament in Indiana since State Singles 2007.
I’m referring to the juniors who were 18 years of age and under. There were nine juniors under the age of 18 and for four of them; this was their first racquetball tournament participating in.
The age requirement for a junior has increased beginning January 1, 2009 to 21 and under to include collegiate players. There were collegiate players from Purdue, Indiana State University, and Indiana University that would make the junior participation even higher but for this write up I’m only focusing on Juniors 18 years and under.
I would like to take this time to welcome the four new junior players to Indiana Racquetball. Sabin Karki age 10 of Terre Haute, Alec Burton age 8 of Ft. Wayne , Jared Woitalla age 7 of Ft. Wayne and Dannie Luckey IV age15 of Fowler. Dannie has a sister who plays racquetball as well and we may see her before long playing Indiana Racquetball Tournaments.

This is a good sign that junior racquetball in Indiana is on its way up. There are three successful junior programs in place in the state of Indiana teaching over 35 kids. Those three clubs are in Schererville, Terre Haute, and Ft. Wayne.
As the Junior Coordinator for Indiana Racquetball I am focused on getting another junior program in place in the state. If you are in an area in Indiana that may support juniors and their development and care enough to have a good sport that can help them develop in many ways as they mature let me know and I will try to start a junior club in your area.
Junior Nationals will be in Lansing, MI in June 2009 and we hope to get a good showing in participation from Junior Team Indiana.
