Starting the Match
RULES | SITUATION | CORRECT RULING |
| 2.5 Apparel | Failure to wear eye guards during match | Technical foul assessed (if intentional) and timeout charged to retrieve eye guards. |
| Second eye guard infraction during match | Immediate forfeiture of match (if intentional). | |
| No eye guards or wrist cord during warm-ups | Warning then technical on second offense (continuous infractions results in forfeiture of match). | |
| 3.2 Start | Server steps on short line but not beyond | Legal Serve |
| Server steps on service/front line - part of foot on line | Legal serve (if whole foot over, it is a Foot Fault). | |
| 3.4 Readiness | Player serves before/while referee calls score | Technical (but usually warning given for first offense). |
| 3.5 Delays | Referee calls score immediately after rally | Incorrect – should give players a few seconds to get in their respective positions and give the Receiver an opportunity to raise racquet if desires. |
| Server fails to serve within 10 seconds | Technical (but usually warning given for first offense). | |
| Server serves while Receiver has racquet up | Fault Serve (given Receiver had racquet up before/while the score was called). | |
| Receiver is cleaning glasses while waiting for serve and Server serves | Legal serve (if receiver is not ready, must raise racquet or turn back to Server – these are the only two valid ways of signifying not ready status). | |
| 10-sec rule – racquet is raised after referee says score and Server serves but Receiver does not respond | Point for Server |
