That’s right – INSRA was first established in 1974 and we’ve been proudly supporting racquetball in Indiana for over 4 decades now. A lot has changed since then. But one thing is constant: Our love for this sport and for the entire racquetball community.
We’ve got a lot to celebrate! First and foremost, a big shout out to Bob Wright from Mishawaka and Linda Shanahan from Fishers for their stellar results at the National Masters Racquetball Association (NMRA) National Championships held in San Antonio, TX on March 3- 9th. Bob beat out 5 fierce competitors to take GOLD in his age group for Mens Singles! If that wasn’t enough, he also took home SILVER with his partner in their age group for Mixed Doubles! Linda and her partner won GOLD in their age group for Womens Doubles and then she followed up with a SILVER in her age group for Womens Singles! If you get the chance, please reach out to congratulate both Bob and Linda for this awesome achievement. We hope to see both of you at an Indiana tournament soon so you can share some of your winning tips and tricks with all of us!
Secondly, the Claddagh-Manx team held a very successful Indy Open on February 15-17 at the Jordan YMCA in Indianapolis. Participants from Indiana and 2 other states had a great time AND contributed to a great cause, the Gleaners Food Bank Back Sacks Program which provides nutritious meals for kids. In addition to the 11 division victors, this is an event where literally everyone is a winner in helping to stamp out hunger in Indiana and Nationwide.
Additionally, our friends across the border in Illinois held their annual Shamrock Shootout on March 14-17. Over 240 players from 8 different countries and across 17 States participated in this IRT Pro-Stop event held at the Glass Court Swim and Fitness facility in Lombard, IL. Thirteen Hoosiers made the trip to compete at this event and brought home 4 Gold, 2 Silver, and 7 Bronze finishes! Not too shabby Indiana!
And last but not least, the Purdue Racquetball Club recently held their annual fundraising shootout this past weekend on March 23rd in Lafayette, IN. This is always a super fun event where the draw is done in an “Olympic” style format with the winners moving on in the original bracket and the remaining players competing against one another in a newly formed bracket. At the end of the day, everyone has an equal opportunity to play a lot of racquetball, compete against new players, and win 1 of 4 singles and 2 doubles brackets. Many thanks to Hunter Vaught and Elyse Duffie for hosting yet another enjoyable and eagerly-anticipated event.
I hope this brief synopsis motivates all of you to pick up your racquets and join us! Check out our upcoming events on this site as well as R2 Sports and register now for the OMNI Open this weekend on March 30th in Schererville or the Indiana State Singles Championships on April 13th at Purdue in Lafayette, IN. It is sure to be a great time with fantastic food and fierce competition in a friendly and welcoming environment. Hope to see you there!
