Thank you to everyone that has reached out to express your support for INSRA, extend good wishes, and even volunteer to help at a future event once we are able to resume playing! It is incredibly uplifting to know that our sport is alive and well in the hearts of the Indiana racquetball community despite recent events.
As I’m sure many of you are already aware, Governor Holcomb recently presented his 5-stage roadmap to get Indiana “back on track”. According to this plan, which is contingent on the state achieving continued positive results in 4 key health areas, health clubs and gymnasiums are projected to reopen to the public with limited capacity towards the end of May. Leagues and tournaments are projected to resume towards the end of June or early July. Exact reopening dates will vary by county and may change based on an areas ability to meet certain health preparedness measures. Full details on this roadmap and its associated executive order are available at backontrack.in.gov.
Unfortunately for us, this means that at least 2 more events planned for this year will be rescheduled – the Sheryl Lotts Shootout originally scheduled for early May in Fort Wayne, and the Lifetime/Gearbox Shootout originally scheduled for mid-June in Indianapolis. Additionally, Indiana State Doubles is tentatively scheduled for July 11th in Schererville. The continuation of this event will be largely dependent on the health situation in Lake County, Indiana. INSRA will be monitoring the state’s health status closely and will keep you informed of any further changes to the 2020 event schedule.
I know it is disappointing to not be able to play the sport we all love. However, I also know that many of you would agree with me when I say that if these actions help contain the spread of this insidious virus and keep our racquetball community safe, healthy, and ready to play another day, it is well worth it. This too, shall pass! And when it does, INSRA will be ready to provide you with several opportunities to play hard, have fun, and reconnect with friends and family.
Until then, please take every precaution to keep yourself and your loved ones safe and healthy. I hope to see you all on a court very soon!
